Between social media and mainstream media there are a lot of messages coming at us everyday. It can be overwhelming, to say the least. And through all that noise we are tasked to determine what matters to us, as individuals, employees, employers, parents, friends, citizens, and human beings. It’s no wonder there are days when the idea of curling up on the couch with a good book, or Netflix to escape all that is real can be so appealing.
To discover purpose, and meaning in the things we do every day, we need to remove the clutter of all the messages, all of the noise that is coming at us and determine what it means to live life with intent. What’s harder, ensuring that your behaviours and actions match the original intention. Because things come at us so fast, and because we live in a world of do more with less, we are constantly in multitask and attack mode. Multitask the multiple items on a list in a day, to accomplish all of these things, to put check marks, to show completion, attack all of these items, some with more passion than others.
It’s only natural then that we are becoming a society of quick-starts. Have an idea – must execute, with lack of understanding intent and repercussions. In some cases the success of all this action and execution is accidental success. In others, it is frustration, headaches, and lack of focus.
So what is your intent? How do you want to live? What will be your legacy and why? Before you move forward attacking and multitasking, stop and ask yourself what the purpose is of the goals that you have created for yourself. Not what the outcome of accomplishing the goals might be, why are the goals important?
