Once but a little seed
Breaching through the dark
Like hope imagined to be real
She ignites a little spark
Life made whole so long ago
Giving shade and air
Peaceful summers turn to snow
Still the tree, she stands there
Growing with renewed pride
With wildflowers, weeds, and grass
Accustomed to the rapid change
That never fails to pass
Across the river a city grows
Towers and spires arise
Today though, the tree she brings
Calm to astounded eyes
I know her life has been so long
Her trunk barely sways
In the harshest of the winds
Her strength, it does amaze
Through years, decades, and millennia
She surpasses even time
She’ll last beyond your final years
And surely outlive mine.
